Gods names and their meaning

Some facts that make Jehovah the God above all Gods can be found out from different names He has • Jehovah or Yahweh – His majesty. “I am the LORD, that is My Name; I will not give to another, or My Praise to idols.” (Isaiah 42:8)

 Yes Gods name is majestic. He is a god full of majesty and He is quiet vocal in saying out in the above verse that He is a God who will not let His name or praise be given to any other idols.

He has maintained His consistent dignity all through the Bible from the Old Testament to the New Testament without any change. •

Jehovah Tsidkenu or Yahweh Tsidkenu – our righteousness. “In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the Name by which He will be called: The LORD Our Righteousness.” (Jeremiah 23:6) Yes God has been a righteous God. He has dealt situation in His righteousness. Even when the Israelites sinned against Him, He didn’t let go His righteousness. He made sure that they were punished for the sins they did and later out of His love free them from the bondage of slavery. His righteousness is no way of any doubts. •

Jehovah Mekaddsh or Yahweh Mekaddsh – He sanctifies. “Keep My decrees and follow them. I am the LORD, who makes you holy.” (Leviticus 20:8) God has been holy in all ways. From the beginning of the existence to till date he has been holy. He was crucified and even Pilate declared to the Jews, “I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him” (Jn. 19: 4). Pilate had earlier officially announced, “I find in him no fault at all” (Jn. 18: 38). He is Holy and He is a God who sanctifies. His dwelling place is Holy as it is written “The priests and the Levites stood to bless the people, and God heard them, for their prayer reached heaven, his holy dwelling place.” 2 Chronicles 30:27 •

Jehovah Shalom or Yahweh Shalom – He is peace. “So Gideon built an altar to the LORD there and called it The LORD is Peace.” (Judges 6:24) Romans 16:19 says God of Peace will soon crush Satan under His feet. God the Jehovah is a God of Peace. His everlasting peace is powerful to mend the broken heart and heal the wounded and His peace surpasses all unserstanding. Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. • J

ehovah Shammah or Yahweh Shammah – He is there. “And the name of the city from that time on will be: The LORD is There.” (Ezekiel 48:35) Yes He is there right besides you. He is everywhere, He is omnipresent. Call unto Him at the time of trouble and He will lift you up. He is close to the broken heart. Jehovah Shammah is unique, calling unto His name itself makes you feel about His closeness. •

Jehovah Rophe or Yahweh Rophe – He heals. “If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His eyes, if you pay attention to His commands and keep all His decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you.” (Exodus 15:26) Yes He is the God that heals our disease. His name is powerful to do miracles. Peter and John who went to pray asked the lame man to rise up and walk in Jesus name and He rose up and walked. Acts 3:6-11. The Church must meet spiritual needs. “Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” “Be Healed in Jesus name”, yes that’s what is you need to say to your sickness with all your faith and receive you healing in faith. Amen •

Jehovah Jireh or Yahweh Jireh – He provides. “Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that place The LORD will Provide. And to this day it is said, ‘On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.” (Genesis 22:13-14) Yes right from the beginning God has presented Himself as a giver. My God is never taken anything, all that He has done is given. He created Adam and found him alone and provided him with a help Eve. He found them naked and provided them with clothes to wear. He gave Abraham a lamb to offer a sacrifice and He gave him Isaac in the days of his old age. He is a God who provided manna to Israelites; He is god who provided Joseph’s needs. He is a god who has provides and fulfills the needs of His people. “And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19) •

Jehovah Nissi or Yahweh Nissi – my banner. “Moses built an altar and called it The LORD is my Banner.” (Exodus 17:15) God is our banner of victory for all the battles we fight. No matter how difficult the battle is for us. If Jehovah is out Nissi then our victory is for sure. When Israel was wandering in the wilderness after miraculously crossing the Red Sea. Amalek was the enemy who came against Israel in Rephidim. In Exodus 17:8-16 Moses called on his young apprentice, Joshua, to lead the Israelites into battle while he stationed himself on top of a hill to pray. He had with him his brother Aaron and his assistant, Hur. As Moses lifted his hands and prayed, the Israelites prevailed in the battle but when he let his hands down, Amalek prevailed. So Aaron and Hur set Moses on a rock and held his hands up for him until the battle was totally won. At the end of the day there was victory. Instead of raising a flag, Moses built an altar because in those times, an altar was often used as a place of remembering or marking an important event. This is where Moses called God Jehovah Nissi Jehovah Rhoi or Yahweh Rhoi – my shepherd. “The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.” (Psalm 23:1) Yes He is Jehovah Rhoi for us, He is our good shepherd. He guides us through all our life way and leads us to quite waters and green pastures. This means He is the good who gives us our supplements. He is the one who is there for us, even when we walk through the darkest of our life. His rod and staff work for our comforts. He is Jehovah Rhoi who prepares a table of honor for us and anoints our head with oil. He is who He is. •

 El Shaddai – the Almighty. “I am the LORD. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty…” (Exodus 6:3) “I am God Almighty, walk before me and be blameless.” (Genesis 17:1) “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of His glory.” (Isaiah 6:3) Mighty god, who is all powerful and victories, who has been present over the ages, who appeared to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Who lead the whole of Israel for 40 years through the wilderness and made them reach the promise land, He is Jehovah the Almighty, he is Jehovah El Shaddai. • El Elyon – the Most High God, the Exalted One. “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. And blessed be God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand.” (Genesis 14:19-20) Yes, Bible places Jehovah on the Most High place, He has heaven his seating place with earth as his foothold “‘Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build for me? says the Lord. Or where will my resting place be? Act 7:49 He is Jehovah the Most High the one who is exalted. The angels exalt Him non stop and sing Hosanna to His name •

El Olam – God of eternity, God the everlasting One. “Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there he called upon the name of the LORD, the Eternal God.” (Genesis 21:33) “Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal.” Isaiah 26:4) “Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” (Psalm 90:2) Jehovah is a solid rock, a firm foundation that can never be shaken nor can it be defeated. He is Eternal, He is the beginning and the end, the faith and the last. He is the Alpha and the Omega. He is Jehovah El Olam! •

El Berith – God of the covenant. “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” (Genesis 12:2-3) “I will confirm my covenant between Me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.” (Genesis 17:2) He made covenants and has kept it till date. He made covenant with Noah and still abides to it. He made a covenant with Abraham and made sure to remember it even at his old age. He made a covenant to send His own son to the face of the earth and He did it. He’s made a covenant to come back and He will make it this time too. •

El Roi – God who sees. “You are the God who sees me.” (Genesis 16:13) Nothing is hidden from His eyes, We may not see things with are naked eyes but His eyes can pierce into everything. He is the one and only one person with whom nothing is hidden Hen 4:13 says: Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. He is Jehova the El Roi. •

El Hoseem – God who creates. “I am the LORD, who has made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by me.” (Isaiah 44:24) Genesis 1:1 says “In the beginning god created the heavens and the earth’ He is one who create, He has made everything that is seen, from heaven to earth everything is gods unique creation. He is the one who created you and me. He is the one who holds our future, He is Jehovah El Hoseem
